Gabriel Fauré – Pavane, Op. 50

Gabriel Fauré's Pavane is one of the most beloved works in the French repertoire, admired for its elegance, delicate colors, and quiet melancholy. Originally written for orchestra and later arranged for various ensembles and solo instruments, the piece unfolds with graceful simplicity while revealing a world of subtle emotion beneath its surface. This performance was not an easy one for me. From the very first note, I struggled to find the resonance I had imagined. My arms felt tense, my body seemed unusually rigid, and the natural flow I had hoped for remained just beyond reach. Yet the experience reminded me of something important: music does not lose its meaning simply because it is imperfect. There are moments when the sound is not exactly what we intended, when the hands hesitate, and when small mistakes quietly appear. Even so, music remains capable of conveying something sincere, fragile, and deeply human. Perhaps beauty is found not only in flawless execution, but also in vulnerability. This performance is part of my ongoing recital project, Hee No Ae Rak (喜怒哀樂) — a journey through the emotions that shape our lives: joy, anger, sorrow, and happiness.
