Basically, there are two types of cargo bikes: two-wheelers and three-wheelers. These two types both ride very differently. A three-wheeler is nice and stable; you can stay seated when stopped at a traffic light, but it rides very differently from a regular bicycle. You steer with the cargo box, and therefore also with the weight of the box. Often, the boxes are larger than those of the two-wheeler, and you can easily fit 4 children in them. A two-wheeler rides much more like you are used to; you steer with the front wheel, making the bike much more maneuverable and taking turns easier. The box is also quite a bit narrower than that of the three-wheeler, which you should definitely take into account on the bike path. If you have to choose between the two types of bikes yourself, it is certainly advisable to take both for a test ride to feel the difference.
