Ricky Gervais and Elmo team up on 'Sesame Street'

(12 Mar 2009) RIFFING ON THE 'STREET' - ELMO AND RICKY GERVAIS What happens when Ricky Gervais pairs up with Elmo on 'Sesame Street'? Let's just say the word on the 'Street' that day was hilarious banter - some a bit too dicey for a kiddies' show. It started out as an interview with Gervais and the Muppet. But it fast turned into a comedy routine, with Gervais asking a sometimes bewildered Elmo questions such as, "Why do you wear pyjamas when you're going to bed but you're naked the rest of the time?" Adding that, "It doesn't make any sense." Infected with the humour Elmo shot back, "Well, we're just acting. It's called acting Mr. Gervais, acting," just before both man and Muppet broke out in hysterical laughter. The reporter, acknowledging that she had long since lost control of the interview - if she ever had it - did not escape unscathed. At one point Gervais interrupted her attempt at a query to ask Elmo, "Gimme four. Gimme four." (The Muppet has only four fingers). Elmo went on to ask the reporter "Where did you lose this interview?" As the Muppet demanded "Get it back" several times, Gervais chimed in, "You call yourself a professional, you can't even control a Muppet and a fat man." These are just outtakes from the interview. More yucks are to come when the full interview airs this fall. Gervais stopped by the famous 'Sesame Workshop' production recently to film a segment - for when 'Sesame Street' returns with new episodes this November for the show's 40th season.
