Stephan van Baarle (DENK) over geweld tegen vrouwen en Gaza

Many politicians agree on the importance of ensuring women's safety, but opinions differ widely on the approach. DENK party leader Stephan van Baarle explains in Amsterdam Kiest that significant additional investment is needed in police capacity, but also that agencies have failed to act on prevention: "There were already signals that could have informed them that something was wrong." "The stories about what women experience are heart-rending. It speaks volumes about our society that women feel so threatened in public spaces. This means that massive investment in police capacity is needed," says Van Baarle. He believes that many incidents of violence against women could have been prevented: "What went wrong in many of those horrific murders and femicides is that there were already signals that could have informed authorities that something was wrong. They failed to act." In addition to additional investment in the police, Van Baarle also believes that more funding should be allocated to regulatory bodies, reporting mechanisms, and public spaces. "We also need to do away with hateful and condescending stereotypes in society that women are often subjected to. A woman is equal and not a man's property," said the DENK party leader. According to Van Baarle, politicians must speak out more forcefully against misogyny: "If there are anti-feminine ideas in politics, we must collectively say: no way, there's no room for this." He also believes that education plays a major role in how women are viewed in society. "Education must be a catalyst for equality." For example, he wants to see more citizenship subjects in schools that focus on the equal treatment of men and women. DENK's election manifesto also states that sex education lessons should take greater account of the diversity of views and beliefs in society. According to Van Baarle, this doesn't mean that attention should no longer be paid to different sexual preferences. "At the same time, we must give parents the opportunity to continue discussing this with schools." ❌ ❌ ❌ AT5 - Real Amsterdam News Subscribe to our YouTube channel here:    / at5   Tips or comments?
