Hotbin Composter, April 2019

#richardandpaul #hotbin #compost Paul sets up our Hotbin composter, in a different way than he did it last year. Last year he found he did not add enough dry matter, so is trying to rectify that this year. Trying to get the mixture of greens and browns right is important, as is trying to ensure the Hotbin contents do not get too wet, so Paul adds lots of dry semi-composted woodchip, shredded paper and torn up cardboard. He also adds some Comfrey leaves, Nettles, chicken manure pellets ripped up teabags and peelings from our kitchen-top Peely Bin alongside grass and some pernicious weeds. Will he succeed in getting rid of pernicious weeds? Time will tell. What tips do you have for a Hotbin, or for composting in general? Since 2018 we have been growing using the No Dig method of cultivation.
