How To Record Drums - Multiple Mics - Placement

In this video, Jason de Wilde, Head of Audio at the Australian Institute of Music, demonstrates how to record a drum kit with multiple microphones. This technique is typical of how engineers and music producers achieve the rock/pop drum sound in the recording studio. It requires a number of mikes, but you are encouraged to try different ones to develop your own approach. There is a short audio sample at the closing credits of this video which are the results of the techniques used in this video. Enjoy. Throughout all stages of the course students are taught theoretical concepts which are supported with practical audio classes. Students will learn to collaborate with other other AIM students including composers, musicians, performers and actors to complete major projects. Students have access to our state of the art recording studios to complete their assessments. They also have opportunities to work on the many additional recording projects such as the Best of AIM CD which is produced each year. Students further their musical knowledge and skills with practical and theoretical units. Students who want to focus on technical production skills should choose the Audio Major. Associate study options enable all audio students to either specialise or broaden their study program.
