In this chapter of Nomadic Journey, I ended up finding something that wasn't in the plans: an abandoned mine in the middle of the mountains. It all started in La Carolina, an old mining town steeped in the history of gold. Among forgotten paths and caves steeped in legend, the route led me to places that seem frozen in time. But the journey wasn't easy. That night, in Las Chacras, I faced one of the toughest moments of the trip: temperatures as low as -9°C, frozen gear, and the uncertainty of where to spend the night. Even so, the hospitality of the people completely transformed the experience. The next day, following my instincts more than the map, an unexpected place appeared: Piscu Yaku, a hidden reservoir with crystal-clear waters in the middle of nowhere. After resupplying in Merlo, the real challenge began. A demanding, technical, and isolated route took me to 2,000 meters above sea level… where Pueblo Escondido finally appeared. A place that was once key to tungsten mining during the World Wars, and which today remains abandoned, an untouched reminder of another era. This wasn't just another destination.
