Watch before you hike Hanakapiai Falls

Back in February, we had the opportunity to visit the beautiful island of Kaua'i. It has been 14 years since my last trip to Kaua'i and I can honestly say it is even better than I remember. Of all the islands I have visited, Kaua'i has to be my favorite. Anyway, here is a video of the day we spent hiking Hanakāpīʻai Falls. IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE HIKING: -You must buy an entry pass per person the website https://gohaena.com/ -You have two options to enter the park, buy a parking pass or book the shuttle -Parking Pass: This option is cheaper and allows for more time flexibility with time and you can park in the park. It is $10 per time slot. We bought the 6:30am and the 12:30pm time slots so we had flexibility with time. Because in my opinion only having 5 hours to hike this trail is really cutting it close. If you want to book a parking pass you have to book them 30 days out and 12am Hawai'i time. They usually sell out within the first minute but you can keep checking back for cancellations and may get lucky. I got up at 5am twice before I was able to secure this day. -Shuttle: The shuttle option allows you to park near Hanalei Bay and be shuttled in. This option included the entry pass but it $40 per person. Another downside of this option is you have to put an exact time slot (they run every 20 minutes). There is generally a lot more availability on the shuttle than the parking passes but I would definitely still book at least a few days ahead of time because their times do book up. -Check the conditions before you go. Try to avoid days with a lot of rain if you can. -If you are staying on the south side of the island it will take you a while to make it to the park. Take that into account when booking your time slot.
