Faisalge Tharubiyyathaai Filaavalhu (10 December 2025)
Abdulla Faisal, who has dedicated his entire life to teaching, experimenting with, and experiencing the traditional fishing practices of his home island Veyvah in Meemu Atoll, is now taking on a deeply personal mission. He aims to impart to his two children, Izaan and Eshal, the essential skills needed to survive even in the most challenging times - beginning with the simple, time-tested methods of catching fish. A firm advocate of food security, Faisal holds the conviction that the Maldives enjoys one of the strongest natural safety nets in the world: an ocean rich with marine life surrounding every inhabited island. He believes that every child should be equipped with the knowledge and confidence to fend for themselves without relying on external resources. With the support of veteran fisherman, Saeedbe, Faisal guides his children through the basics—from catching bait fish to hooking Filolhu (Emperor Fish). Throughout the experience, he instills in them not only practical skills, but also the assurance that the sea provides—reminding them that, when circumstances demand, they will always have the means to survive. This heartfelt episode conceptualized by Faisal, captured on iPhone by Ahmed Shiyam, has been edited by Mohamed Asif (Mondhu) as a special SSTV production in celebration of Fishermen’s Day, observed on 10 December 2025.
