Bucharest business-man Jupân Dumitrache has entrusted his right-hand man, Chiriac, to spy on Veta, his wife. Dumitrache is certain Veta is having an affair. And she is - only her lover is Chiriac himself. One night the plaque with Dumitrache's house number 6 is turned upside down - leading Rică Venturiano, a young man infatuated with Veta's sister Ziţa, who lives in no. 9, into the wrong apartment. When Jupân Dumitrache sees him there, he chases him and tries to kill him (assisted by his true rival Chiriac) - finally finding out that Venturiano isn't only the admirer of his sister-in-law, but also the author of those marvellous pro-democratic articles in Dumitrache's favorite newspaper. One last suspicion is aroused in him when he finds another man's neck tie on Veta's pillow - and averted by Chiriac who says it's his. O noapte furtunoasă. Operă bufă în două acte.
