The Rise and Fall of Pan Am | America's Lost Airline

At its peak, Pan American World Airways was the most recognizable airline on earth — carrying presidents, Beatles, and James Bond across oceans on aircraft it helped design. Founded by a Yale graduate with a borrowed seaplane and $5,000 in capital, Pan Am didn't just respond to the demand for international travel. It created that demand, pioneering transatlantic jet service, economy class, and the Boeing 747 — the plane that made mass air travel possible. But the same ambition that built the airline eventually broke it. Crippling debt, the oil crisis, deregulation, the Tenerife disaster, and the bombing of Flight 103 over Lockerbie each took their toll. By December 1991, the Blue Meatball was gone — leaving behind terminals, aircraft, and a waiting list of 93,000 people who had signed up for the first flight to the Moon. This is the full story of Pan Am's rise, its golden age, and the scattered pieces it left behind. #ItsHistory #PanAm #AviationHistory Support the Channel by becoming a member 👉    / @itshistory   Request an episode here 👉 https://forms.gle/siuafjjyP8iHjQ2MA IT’S HISTORY - Weekly Tales of American Urban Decay as presented by your host Ryan Socash.    • IT'S HISTORY 🔥 Trending   » Subscribe:    / @itshistory   » Listen podcasts: https://ffm.bio/itshistory » CONTACT For brands, agencies, and sponsorships: [email protected] Click here to book a sponsorship with me http://thoughtleaders.io/reserve/its-... » DISCLAIMER Some media elements in this video are used under the fair use provisions of U.S. copyright law (Title 17, Section 107) for purposes of commentary, criticism, and education.
