Filmblik: Haagse bioscopen in de Galerij

The exhibition ‘Filmblik’ can be seen in De Galerij in the tram tunnel at the Spui stop from June 8 to September 7, 2026. In this exhibition, we take a look at The Hague’s film history through film posters, photographs, and program booklets from The Hague cinemas. The exhibition provides an overview of the many cinemas the city once had, the films that were shown, and the advertising created for them. In the twentieth century, dozens of cinemas could be found in The Hague. Nowadays, we often watch films on television or on our smartphones, but in the past, you could only see films in cinemas. News was also disseminated via these theaters in so-called newsreels. Cinemas were therefore important to society. The cinemas advertised their screenings with posters and program booklets. This material can be found in the collection of the Municipal Archives of The Hague. https://haagsgemeentearchief.nl/nieuw...
