National Court Judge Santiago Pedraz has formally charged Belén Gualda, president of SEPI (the Spanish State Holding Company), in the Leire case, citing "evidence of criminal activity." Gualda is among the 25 people under investigation for alleged irregularities in the awarding of public contracts, along with former Enusa president José Vicente Berlanga and former Environment Minister of Castilla-La Mancha, Rosario Arévalo. According to the court order, all will be summoned to testify in the coming weeks. The investigation is examining whether Leire Díez, former SEPI president Vicente Fernández, and Joseba Antxon Alonso created a parallel structure within SEPI between 2021 and 2023 to influence public contracts and bailouts. The UCO (Central Operative Unit of the Civil Guard) maintains that they intervened in at least five transactions worth €132.9 million, allegedly obtaining €750,000 through their influence.
