Live! Folklife Concert: Barrule (The Laxey Reels)
Barrule brings the unique sound of traditional Manx music from the Isle of Man across the Atlantic. While sharing common ground with its Celtic cousins, Manx music has retained its own particular sound that evokes the natural beauty of the island and the lives of its inhabitants. The award-winning trio performs a diverse collection of material: from rousing marches, jigs and reels to sorrowful slow airs and beautiful songs of unrequited love and the toils of island life sung in English and the Manx Gaelic language, not often heard in the States. Jamie Smith (accordion), Tomas Callister (fiddle), and Adam Rhodes (bouzouki) are called “Players of conviction and passion” –The Scotsman. www.barruletrio.com Free, live concert recorded Thursday, September 22, 2016 by Todd DeGarmo and Kevin Rogan. Edited by Kevin Rogan. Concert hosted and produced by Todd DeGarmo, founding director of the Folklife Center at Crandall Public Library and funded in part by the Friends of Crandall Public Library and the New York State Council on the Arts - Folk Arts Program with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the NYS Legislature.
