David confronted Jonathan about Saul's attempt to kill him. Jonathan tried to convince David that his father was not like that, but David doubted it (1-3). So they devised a plan to prove which was true: Jonathan's belief or David's words, and also to determine whether David should attend the king's banquet or stay (4-22). They made a covenant by saying, "The LORD is witness between you and me forever" (23). At the banquet with the king, on the first day, David did not show up, leaving Saul unperturbed. However, on the second day, Saul questioned David's absence. Jonathan replied that David should be present at the sacrifice with his family. Upon hearing this, Saul became furious. Jonathan tried to calm his father and asked why David should be killed (24-32). However, Saul threw a spear at his son. Jonathan was convinced that his father truly intended to kill David. Amidst the threat of death from Saul, Jonathan chose to stand by David's side, even though it meant defying his own father and giving up the throne that was rightfully his. This decision demonstrates that true friendship involves a courageous and self-sacrificing commitment to the truth. A true friend will give his best to his friend, even if it means facing the bitter reality of losing his position, position, or popularity. To safeguard his friend's friendship and safety, he is willing to endure risks and dangers. Jesus himself said, "Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends" (see John 15:13). Jesus gave His life for us because He loves us.
