Luché - Pringé

Nestled between a hillside and bordered by the Loir River, Luché-Pringé boasts a unique history. From the Romanesque porch of Notre Dame de Pringé to the Plantagenet choir of Saint-Martin, and including the tufa quarries, the town will tell you its story. The golden hue of the limestone and the shimmering waters of the tranquil Loir contribute to the gentle pace of life in Luché-Pringé. The town originally comprised two separate villages, united in 1810. The first developed near the river, around a central square and its church; the second, three kilometers away, grew not only around its church but also along the hillside, where a few vines still grow. The clay and limestone composition of the soil allowed for the extraction of tufa stone; thus, in the 19th century, some ten quarries supplied the entire surrounding region with building stone. Nestled on the banks of the once turbulent Loir River, the 15th-century Mervé mill is one of the most beautiful mills in the region and the only one with fortifications. The castles of Gallerande, Venevelles, and La Grifferie offer romantic and architectural highlights along the village's marked trails. https://www.petitescitesdecaractere.c... June 17, 2026
