The Cachoeira do Mato Dentro Farm was built in 1874 and is located in Vassouras, Rio de Janeiro, on the banks of the Paraíba do Sul River. Its first owner was José de Avelar e Almeida, Baron of Ribeirão, who had thirteen children, including the Baron of Massambará, the Baron of Avelar e Almeida, the Viscount of Cananéia, and the Baroness of Werneck. With the death of the Baron of Ribeirão, the Cachoeira do Mato Dentro Farm was divided, with Hilário Rodrigues de Avelar receiving the Cachoeira Farm. In 1892, the farm was sold to José Machado de Carvalho, and due to the coffee crisis, the property was auctioned off in Rio de Janeiro and acquired in 1896 by Sylvio Ferreira Rangel. Since then, it has remained in the Rangel family.
