Session 2 - Why do the Orthodox Venerate Icons, Saints and the Theotokos?                                      Description: In this second sessions of the series of teachings done at the St. Peter’s Believers Eastern Church, Wills Point, Texas. Dr. Nathan Jacobs Starting with why Mary was referred to as the Theotokos at the Council of Ephesus and that venerating her is not so much about Mary herself, but rather about acknowledging Jesus as the incarnate Word of God. Dr Jacobs explains that with the Essence/Energy divide in the West, a tendency to think about God as standing ‘outside’ has been created, while St. Paul and the Eastern Fathers talk about ‘synergy,’ and that God’s energies, including His holiness can be communicated, which then becomes the basis for understanding why the Orthodox venerate icons, Saints and the Theotokos.  Subscribe to our channel:    / @believerseasternchurchdioc1833   http://www.becna.org http://www.bec.org  0:00 - Intro/Review - Man as an Icon of God 7:06 - Veneration, Theotokos, Mariology and the Ecumenical Councils 15:30 - Honor vs Worship 18:43 - Essence/Energy Distinction 26:40 - Spiritual Energies are Communicable 28:35 - Synergy - Example of Branding with a Heated Iron
