Oldham rugby's epic semi final battles of 1964
“If Parker had been fit we would have won that second game.”… the words of John Donovan who played in all three Challenge cup semi-finals against Hull KR in April 1964. The first at Leeds ended 5-5 after a last minute drop goal from Len McIntyre. The second at Station road, Swinton, was controversially abandoned in extra time with Oldham ahead. The third ended in 2-12 defeat and the dream was over yet again. With Oldham eighty minutes from a first ever Wembley appearance, we’ve been speaking to John about his memories of those matches…
