BUSH COOK ๐ฌ๐พ๐ฅ | Everybody Bring One Ting! Growing Up in Guyana | (1980s Memories)
๐ฅ๐ฌ๐พ BUSH COOK Everybody Bring One Ting! | Growing Up in Guyana (1980s Memories) Do you remember the days when Bush Cook wasn't just about foodโit was about family, friendship, laughter, and sharing? During the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, families and friends across Berbice, Demerara, Essequibo, and villages throughout Guyana gathered beside creeks, rivers, beaches, and open fields for unforgettable Bush Cook gatherings. Nobody came empty-handed. One family brought rice, another brought channa, someone else brought a tin of sardines, while others contributed fresh fish, chicken, cassava, coconut milk, wiri-wiri peppers, firewood, and homemade pepper sauce. Together, everyone created one delicious meal that fed the entire group. While the cook-up simmered over an open wood fire, children played cricket, Ready Catcha, Rounders, Hide and Seek, and swam in the creek. Adults played dominoes, cards, tuned guitars, beat the dholak, listened to Bollywood, Chutney, Calypso, and Reggae, and shared stories that lasted well into the evening. "BUSH COOK" is a tribute to those unforgettable weekends when a simple meal brought an entire community together. ๐ต Featured Memories Traditional Bush Cook in Guyana Cooking over an open wood fire Cook-Up Rice in a large black iron pot Families sharing ingredients and meals Rice, channa, sardines, fresh fish, cassava, and coconut Creek-side gatherings in Berbice Cricket, Ready Catcha, Rounders, and swimming Dominoes, cards, guitars, dholak, and Bollywood music Community, generosity, and togetherness Growing up in Guyana during the 1980s ๐ฌ Share your Bush Cook memories in the comments!
