Bung Muan (1,646 feet high), also known as Mount Serumbu or Bukit Peninjau is one of Sarawak’s most famous historical sites. It was made famous by Sir James Brooke, The First White Rajah of Sarawak, who built a cottage high up in the mountain in between 1848 and 1850. The mountain itself was the ancestral home for the Bidayuh community in that area, where they built longhouses (Kampung Serambu, Kampung Bumbok and Kampung Peninjau). However, now all of them have moved to the base of the mountain into separate villages. Beautiful mountain with pretty steep and slippery trails. Yes, challenging hike but very rewarding with gorgeous views of the flatland below (Oh! With muscle soreness too HAHAHA). Completed the trail (also known as Wallace Trail) in approximately 6 hours (17.47km).
