Today we're examining one of the most difficult passages of Scripture—the Apostle Paul's admonition to Christians about obedience to secular authorities. The lecturer uses his own translation. The thirteenth chapter of the Epistle to the Romans, which we will now read as part of the Exegete Bible Project. It's usually very well known because it deals with attitudes toward authority. What other issue divides people so much, attracts people so much, or repels people so much, as the question of authority? Do we have good authority, do we have bad authority? Do I want to be in authority, and how can I become one? Or how can I escape the current authority if I don't like it for some reason?
