TSA, NCDMV discuss REAL ID ConfirmID identity verification

Airline passengers who do not have a REAL ID by Jan. 31 will be subject to a $45 identity verification at North Carolina airports, the Transportation Security Administration and North Carolina DMV announced on Thursday. According to TSA, the $45 fee covers the cost of a modernized alternative identity verification system known as TSA ConfirmID. The verification will cover a 10-day travel period. Travelers can use the verification multiple times during those 10 days. Under the new policy, any traveler who shows up without a compliant ID — including those who present state driver’s licenses that do not meet REAL ID standards — will be directed to the optional Confirm.ID process before reaching the security line. TSA said it expects longer wait times for those using the new verification program. “Identity verification is essential to traveler safety, because it keeps terrorists, criminals, and illegal aliens out of the skies,” Adam Stahl, the agency’s senior official performing the duties of deputy administrator, said in a statement. “Beginning February 1, travelers who do not present an acceptable form of ID at our security checkpoints and still want to fly can pay a $45 fee and undergo the TSA Confirm.ID process." #News #Travel #RealID READ MORE: https://www.wcnc.com/article/travel/r...
