The grasses aren't in bloom yet, but they still wave beautifully in the wind, and among them reign perennials that attract a multitude of insects: coneflowers, rudbeckias, spiked liatris, spikeworts, burnet (Canadian and common), verbenas, and the beginning-of-flowering spotted oxeye daisy 'Riesenschirm' variety, whose tall, purple inflorescences are a magnet for butterflies. A moment's observation is enough to see a whole flock of colorful wings hovering over the bed.
