The Cigars That Defined 2026 (So Far)

We're halfway through 2026, which means we've got about six months before the top 25 lists start dropping and everybody starts arguing over what should be on them. Some of those lists will look exactly like last year, and some are going to throw us a few surprises, because the truth is this year has already given us some incredible cigar projects. So let's do a little vibe check together. In this one I run through some of the releases that have pulled the most attention from aficionados so far this year, in no particular order. We get into the long awaited Room 101 Johnny Tobacconaut Maduro, the Romeo y Julieta 150th Anniversary and the who's who of cigar makers who had a hand in it, and My Father's follow up out of their new Honduran factory with the La Lealtad. We also talk about Drew Estate stepping outside Nicaragua with the Undercrown El Tigre Dominicana and their massive new Dominican factory, the deeply personal story behind AJ Fernandez's Amar after the factory fire, and the Romeo y Julieta Reserva Real Nicaragua Profundo that I'll fully admit I'm biased on. This isn't every cigar that's come out this year. Not even close. There have been so many projects that even the folks who report on this stuff full time have a whole staff just to keep up.
