The fact is that since they use caramel, the preparation can be a bit more unpredictable, but I repeat, following all the instructions will get you there. The choice of ingredients is crucial because with only four, you can't afford to buy low-quality products. Here, the individual ingredients really stand out, so I recommend using fresh, good-quality cream because it makes all the difference. Good ingredients lead to a good product. Many people make toffee candies by making a caramel and then adding fresh cream at the end, but I prefer to do it this way, using all the ingredients to create a more blended base, and I really like the idea of the cream mixing and cooking with all the other ingredients. Others also add butter, which we might call another important ingredient, but in reality, they're delicious even without it, and I don't notice a particular difference whether I add it or not. Then we get to the sugar issue: some prefer to use only sugar, while others, like myself, would prefer to halve the amount with glucose syrup or honey, which guarantees an incredibly smooth consistency. You decide. I'll explain in the video that you could also make them with just granulated sugar, but the texture won't quite match. And if you can't find glucose syrup, just use honey, which in this case is almost imperceptible thanks to the presence of caramel and cream, two very strong flavors, which greatly mitigate the honey's taste. To give you an idea: my dad hates honey. But these candies love them. Trust me, only the most sensitive palates would detect it. Try them, try them, try them, because besides being easy and quite quick, they're also amazing for making as a gift. The cookie idea is a good one, but the candies are also an idea not to be overlooked, simple and incredibly versatile. Christmas isn't far away, think about it.
