The Mark Hofmann Bombings: Hofmann’s pretrial for murder and fraud

After three months of investigations into Mark Hofmann’s planned murders of two people to cover up a massive forgery scheme of historical documents, Salt Lake County prosecutors officially charged Hofmann on Feb. 2, 1986. In April, Hofmann's preliminary hearing began and lasted until May. During this period, prosecutors laid out why Hofmann wanted to kill Steven Christensen and Gary Sheets and presented evidence on how he forged five years' worth of historical documents. During this period, Hofmann’s defense attorney kept insisting that he was innocent and that they would not accept a plea deal. KSL TV is releasing archived footage of how the media reported these events, which inspired a hit Netflix documentary released in 2021.
