On the doorstep of Rennes, Châteaugiron is one of the attractive Petites Cités de Caractère® . Its city center is proudly marked by the high towers of a medieval castle. Its historical prosperity can still be seen in the numerous merchants' houses with their colorful wood panelling. The castle, the flagship monument of Châteaugiron, was built in the 11th century to defend the Breton capital. In the Middle Ages, many houses were built around the castle towers. Trade was flourishing there, driven by the production of sailcloth: the Noyales. A stroll through the streets of the city center will lead you to the address of these cloth merchants. Around the restored and developed historical center, residential areas, school and sports facilities, and economic activities were created according to a rational plan of peripheral urbanization. The creation of a vast pond, the development of green spaces, the plantations carried out throughout the commune have also earned it the label of "green vacation resort".
