‘World Without End’ by Ken Follett: Fantasy Book Review

The Bottled Imp - Episode 54 The Bottled Imp picks up this heavy book (over 1,000 pages and my copy is the hard back!), ‘World Without End’ by Ken Follett published 2007 by Macmillian. This is the sequel to the massively successful ‘The Pillars of the Earth’ published 1989. I’d been waiting for a follow up novel since I finished the last page of the first novel way back 20 years ago! ‘World Without End’ is set in the same city, Kingsbridge, one hundred and fifty-seven years later (1327) and follows the descendants of the first novel. Like ‘The Pillars of the Earth’ the storylines plot all aspects of medieval life: the Church, the Guilds, the Monarchy, and the lives of the everyday folk. Follett manages to weave epic stories seen through the eyes of ordinary people as they try and cope with the injustices that befall them. Can they rises above the expectations their peers and authority place on them and succeed where no hope seems possible?
