Dr. Silvia Meyer is a child and adolescent psychologist at the Center for Developmental and Personality Psychology (ZEPP) at the University of Basel and a lecturer at the Universities of Basel and Zurich, as well as at the Pedagogical Center in Basel. Silvia Meyer heads the Competence Center for School Absenteeism, where she advises families, teachers, and other professionals on how to address school absenteeism. About the presentation In this presentation, Silvia Meyer will present research findings on the topic of school absenteeism and examine its causes and risk factors from the various systems in which children and adolescents grow up—such as school, family, peers, and societal structures. She will take a closer look at influences such as being over- or under-challenged at school, difficulties in parenting, and bullying, and will demonstrate the connections between the individual risk factors. In addition to examples from her practical work with families, the child and adolescent psychologist will also discuss possible intervention measures.
