She has led the Barbados Labor Party (BLP) since 2008 and has been the country's eighth prime minister since 2018. She is the first female to occupy either role. She also served as Barbados' first prime minister under the republican government after her proposed constitutional amendments ended the nation's constitutional monarchy.
