Mean & Mercenary - Manga Video UK fight compilation 1997

This video, originally promoted as Manga Fights before being renamed to Mean & Mercenary, is an hour-long compilation of fighting and violence from Manga's library at the time. From 1997 this kinda signifies the start of the period where Manga's popularity was fading (especially as ADV and Pioneer joined the UK market and started swallowing licenses), videos like this plus their eventual brief foray into non-anime content were an attempt to keep the brand going even as their anime output became the dregs. Thankfully, a reopening of the UK office and a move away from the violence/sex-focused branding in the early 2000s brought Manga back to being the biggest UK anime company, and theyre now owned by Funimation. This tape contains clips from Fist of the North Star, Crying Freeman, Ghost in the Shell, Angel Cop, Violence Jack, Wicked City, Goku Midnight Eye and Street Fighter II, as well as a trailer reel including Fist of the North Star, Street Fighter II and the live action Crying Freeman (with Mark Dacascos of Iron Chef USA and John Wick 3 fame). The original music was created by Silverfish. The 'Mean & Mercenary' brand briefly continued for Manga's action output, with Grappler Baki and Shadow Skill plus the live-action films Tokyo Fist and Choke being released under this brand.
