Tahoma Mirror Frame Build: Part Two

In this segment of the build, I cut the slot for the spline on the table saw using a shop made fixture. The spline is then glued in place. This adds considerable strength to the joint. Next I trim the spline to 1/16" proud. I do this in two steps on the router table using different size collars and bits. The spline is made from Macassar Ebony which is made up of brown and black streaks. The frame is made of Padouk, which starts out as orange. This makes for a vivid contrast. While this pushes the limits - it's not too stark and showy like some contrasting woods can be. As the padouk ages it will turn a deep maroon. The contrast will be less but the dark warm colors will have an especially inviting appeal.
