Certain Ram trucks and Jeep vehicles feature the 3.0L EcoDiesel, and this engine option gives owners a unique combination of fuel efficiency, longevity and power. However, the EcoDiesel frequently has issues with its exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system. When soot builds up in the EGR valve, the manifold can become clogged and eventually fail. In extreme cases, this can even lead to a vehicle fire. Soot can also build up in the factory EGR cooler. This has an insulating effect, and as the cooler’s efficiency drops, EGR system temps will only continue to rise.
