GRP : Le Tour du Massif des Bauges en bivouac et en autonomie du 9 au 12 mai 2024

Over four days, during this long May bank holiday weekend, you'll discover, in this video, this short trek around the Bauges Massif. This small limestone massif, nestled between Lake Bourget and Lake Annecy, straddles the Savoie and Haute-Savoie departments. It has a touch of the Jura Mountains mixed with a hint of Switzerland... This long-distance hiking trail (GRP), normally completed in six stages, will take you to viewpoints overlooking the lakes, alpine pastures, and magnificent forests, and you'll encounter the highest peaks of the Bauges during this hike. The Bauges boast 14 peaks over 2,000 meters, and if you're feeling adventurous, in the summer you can link all fourteen 2,000-meter peaks of the Bauges instead of the fourteen 8,000-meter peaks of the Himalayas! That's a different budget altogether! Water is omnipresent in this mountain range, and numerous torrents and streams cut through the limestone ridges. The Savoie Grand Revard ski area is the largest Nordic ski area in France. Close to urbanized valleys (Annecy, Chambéry, Aix-les-Bains, Grenoble, Albertville, etc.), the Bauges offer a wide range of tourist and sporting activities: hiking, downhill and cross-country skiing, canyoning, caving, mountain biking, paragliding, and more. And of course, you won't leave without tasting Tome des Bauges cheese and other cheeses from this mountain range, which is closely linked to cattle farming. The Bauges became a Regional Natural Park in 1995 thanks to its remarkable flora, fauna, and natural features. Due to its modest altitude, it's an excellent trek for the beginning of the season, when snow is still present at higher elevations. As someone who usually prefers less frequented trails, I was surprised by the crowds of hikers heading towards Revard and Croix du Nivollet over the long May weekend, given the proximity of the larger towns and cities. Fortunately, the rest of the route was much quieter. I hope this has inspired you to explore this little mountain range. See you soon for more hikes, ciao! 🎥 Timecode: 00:00:00 Introduction 00:00:08 Day 1 La Féclaz to Pont du Diable 31km 940m elevation gain 00:04:02 Day 2 Pont du Diable to Jarsy 21km 905m elevation gain 00:06:35 Day 3 Jarsy to La Place à Baban 22km 1540m elevation gain 00:09:28 Day 4 La Place à Baban to La Féclaz 21km 1320m elevation gain 00:13:11 Summary GPX track: https://www.visugpx.com/download.php?...
