My coach, Manu Anguita, had me climb the Ultra Sierra Nevada section from Pinos Genil to Dornajo with a backpack and 5 kg of weight, accumulating over 1300 meters of elevation gain. The idea was to work on strength on the climb, maintaining several blocks at an RPE of 7 during the workout, simulating the effort required for this part of the race. During the run, we also applied the strategy we had discussed: • Emptying water bottles during the climb • Jogging a bit on the Llano de las Víboras (Plain of the Vipers) • And avoiding carrying weight on the descent in the Canales area to avoid overtaxing the muscles. In the end, we covered 14.9 km and over 1300 meters of elevation gain, all on foot, and with a great feeling.
