Getting a narrowboat ready for its Boat Safety Scheme (BSS) inspection can feel a little daunting — especially with a big summer cruise planned! 🚤 In this video, I take you through my own DIY pre-inspection checklist aboard the narrowboat Grey Wagtail as I prepare for the official BSS test. From checking the gas system and ventilation to testing smoke alarms, fire extinguishers, fuel lines, batteries, and the stove, I show the practical checks I can carry out before the examiner arrives. The BSS certificate is essential if you want to stay licensed, insured, and legal on the UK canals, so this was an important job to get sorted before heading off cruising later this year.
