Алтай Усть Кокса

The first permanent settlement in this area dates back to the 1780s, or perhaps earlier. The local nomadic inhabitants kept no records, and the exact date of the settlement's founding can only be estimated. Ust-Koksa is located 324 km from Gorno-Altaisk, the capital of the Altai Republic, at the confluence of the Koksa and Katun rivers. Currently, approximately 4,500 people live here, primarily employed in agriculture. During the summer, various tourism services are of particular economic importance to the villagers.
