DESENVOLVIMENTO DO BEBÊ COM 15 MESES | O QUE OBSERVAR E COMO ESTIMULAR
Each stage of your baby's life brings new challenges and new learning experiences. At 15 months, your baby's social, emotional, motor, and language development is at a peak. Observing your baby's milestones is essential to determine if everything is going well and to understand how to best stimulate your baby. What are the social and emotional milestones of this stage? At this age, babies begin to imitate other people and other children. For example, they might try to play like a child they're watching play or pick up, or manipulate a toy the way they see them do. They already show when they like something and may even clap their hands when they're very happy. Another very cute thing at this stage is that many babies begin to show more affection with hugs, kisses, and cuddles. A practical tip to stimulate your baby: Play with your baby. Give them simple models of actions to copy. Clapping your hands, perhaps with a song, placing one block on top of another, waving goodbye so they imitate you. This, in addition to strengthening the bond, is a great way to stimulate through repetition of movements. Regarding language and communication milestones, a 15-month-old baby usually already tries to say a few simple words like "mamá" or "papá" (mama) (daddy). They already understand simple instructions, especially when the instructions are accompanied by gestures, such as "give the ball to mommy" or "come here with me." They also point to things, either to show or to ask. Practical tip for this sense: Name everyday objects. For example, if they pointed to a cup, say exactly that. "It's a cup. Do you want water?" Repeat it a lot so they associate that object with the word being said. Regarding cognitive milestones, at 15 months, babies already try to use some objects in a more functional way. They often throw a ball, pick up a toy telephone to talk to, or put it to their ear. They really enjoy exploring blocks at this stage. Simple interlocking toys are also great for 15-month-olds. Practical tip for this sense: How to stimulate? By offering simple toys that they can explore and give them a purpose. For example, a jar for them to store blocks in, a small pan for them to put toy food in, so they can gradually assign a purpose to the object. This is a great cognitive stimulus. Regarding motor milestones, at 15 months, some babies are already walking independently, while others are still taking steps with support or even holding hands, and that's fine. They also use their hands a lot to eat certain types of foods or to explore things and different textures, gradually gaining independence, which is super important. Practical tip for this sense. How to stimulate? Encourage your baby to walk, even if it's hand-held, on various surfaces. Use toys that roll or move, like balls and cars, to encourage the baby to chase the toy. Encourage them to eat independently, despite the mess; eating alone is important for the child's development and independence. Besides all this, talk to your baby a lot. Sing to your baby, especially children's songs that include gestures so he or she can imitate you. Give your baby small tasks, like helping put away toys. This will help him or her get used to them. Show him or her different everyday objects and name them. This really helps with language development. Read books to your baby. Reading also really helps with your baby's development. Every baby develops at their own pace, but developmental milestones need to happen within a certain timeframe. It's important to monitor your baby to see if they're mastering all the skills I just mentioned. If you notice anything different, a skill your baby hasn't mastered, or have any questions about their development, always talk to your pediatrician to put your mind at ease. Kisses, and see you next week. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ✅ Grow Baby with Carolina Reinecke, Physical Therapist and mother of two daughters.
