Detectives from the central unit of the Traffic Police Division located 40 improved vehicles in the Eliyakim Forest that were inspected by patrol officers and taken off the road. Drivers were arrested all over the country for driving under the influence of alcohol. Vehicles were stopped and taken off the road. Drivers were given hearings and summonses were issued. Last night, police officers and volunteers from the Traffic Police Division, together with military police officers, went on a targeted enforcement operation on New Year's Eve. As part of the enforcement, hundreds of police officers, volunteers, and military police officers were deployed on urban and interurban routes to enforce life-threatening traffic violations on major routes and roads. All units of the Traffic Police Division participated in the operation, including the National Traffic Police, the National Motorcycle Patrol, and a heavy vehicle unit. During the enforcement, drunkenness checkpoints were set up from north to south, where drivers were caught driving under the influence of alcohol, enforcement was carried out against distracted driving offenses, speeding offenses, careless/reckless driving, and more, using all the means available to the department. During the night, enforcement was carried out against 1,357 drivers, of whom; 200 were driving under the influence of alcohol. 296 were driving at excessive speed. 100 for distracted driving offenses. 25 for careless/reckless driving. 149 offenses by 'young' drivers. 20 drivers were driving with a disqualification. 15 drivers were driving while not authorized to drive. 230 driver licenses were revoked on site. 212 vehicles were impounded. 19 drivers were arrested and jailed. During the night, detectives from the Traffic Division located 40 modified vehicles in the Eliyakim Forest. The detectives closed the area and detained dozens of drivers on the spot. After an inspection by patrol officers, 11 vehicles were taken off the road for modifications and malfunctions. In the south of the country, a resident of Gedera was caught driving under the influence of alcohol and a urine test found that he was positive for cocaine. Another driver, a resident of Petah Tikva, was caught also driving under the influence of alcohol. A resident of Rahat was caught after he was seen zigzagging on the road, endangering himself and other road users. A breath test found 1,224 micrograms. A resident of Fordyce was stopped for a routine test and a breath test found 1,137 micrograms. He was detained for questioning by the examiners and was subsequently released under restrictive conditions, including house arrest. His vehicle was impounded and his driver's license was revoked. A resident of Tiberias, a 'new driver', was caught with a drug suspected of being cannabis in his vehicle. At the end of his interrogation, he was imprisoned, his license was revoked and his vehicle was impounded. A resident of Reina was detained for a routine check, the check found that he was driving under the influence of drugs and he was released after questioning to house arrest, his license was revoked and his vehicle was impounded.
