The Huffy Bicycle Factory: How Every American Child's First Bike Became Chinese
The Huffy Bicycle Factory: How Every American Child's First Bike Became Chinese. For over 50 years, Huffy was every American child's first bike. The Thunder Road. The Sigma. The Dragster. These were the bikes that taught generations of Americans how to ride. Built in Celina, Ohio by over 1,000 American workers, Huffy was the largest bicycle manufacturer outside of Asia. Then Walmart demanded lower prices. Chinese factories undercut American labor. And by 2005, the company that invented training wheels had been sold to Chinese creditors. This is the story of how every American child's first bike became Chinese-made. In this documentary, we explore the complete rise and fall of Huffy bicycles, from the Davis Sewing Machine Company in 1892 through the devastating Celina plant closure in 1998 that left an entire Ohio town without jobs. 💬 WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST BIKE? Tell us in the comments - did you have a Huffy? Thunder Road? Sigma? Pro Lightning?
