EL FOCO | Christian Gálvez: "Los críticos literarios tienen poco respeto por el trabajo ajeno"

Today, on El Foco, we speak with Christian Gálvez (1980), one of the most recognizable faces on Spanish television. He's changed his setting. He no longer throws questions at contestants: now he throws them at the soul, at faith. He does so in Te he llamado por tu nombre (I Called You by Your Name), his latest novel. In it, he draws us to a Jerusalem between 33 AD, with Jesus crucified, and 70 AD, under Roman siege. There, where faith struggled and shattered... and where human beings, even in defeat, searched for meaning. "It's a novel about faith and purpose," says Christian. But, as he himself states, "for that purpose to be fulfilled, there must be passion, perseverance, and sacrifice." And he knows about sacrifice. He confesses it bluntly: his true purpose in life was to be a father. The road to achieving it wasn't easy. There was pain. Resignations. Crisis. But today, with a family he adores, he can say it was worth it. At its core, this book has something of that inner journey: from loss to fulfillment, from fear to certainty. He also confesses that he believed a lot… and then stopped believing. Years of crisis of faith, of inner silence. Until he found it again. In work, in love, in friendship, in God. In himself. Part of the soul of Jacob, the protagonist of his novel, is his own: a child who saw Jesus fall under the weight of a cross and an adult who, forty years later, doubts the resurrection. Jacob is the nephew of a Zealot. He was born between swords. Between fire. And doubt. Luke—the Evangelist—questions him. Challenges him. Meanwhile, Christian also questions the reader: Was Judas a traitor or a necessary instrument? And us? What have we done with spirituality? Have we turned it into posturing? Noise? Poses? Posts?
