Why do we light a Deepa ? Understand the science behind the Oil/ Ghee Lamp and the Related Benefits

We follow many traditions as Hindus, but do not really understand their importance. Lighting a lamp has many meanings, spiritual, philosophical and practical. In this video I discuss the practical benefits of lighting a lamp. The Composition of Pancha Deepam Oil mentioned in the video is given below. I have found 2 ratios during my research. Many customs vary across India and this may be the reason fore these 2 compositions. Pancha deepam oil 1: Sesame oil or Coconut oil ( 35%), Cow ghee (20%) , Mahua/iluppai oil (20%) , Castor oil (15%) and Neem oil (10%). Pancha deepam oil 2: Coconut oil, sesame oil, neem oil, Iluppai (mahua tree) oil and ghee in the ratio of 3:2:1:2:2 respectively.
