The Biggest Problem with Stephen King's Fairy Tale

Stephen King’s Fairy Tale promised a story about a boy who would do anything to save his dog. And that’s exactly why I found the book so frustrating. Charlie Reade’s journey begins with one of the most emotionally compelling setups in Stephen King’s recent work: a desperate mission to save Radar, the dog he loves. But once Charlie enters the mysterious world of Empis, the story’s focus shifts — and the emotional core that made the novel work begins to disappear. In this video, I explore what I believe is the biggest problem with Fairy Tale: the way Radar’s story is pushed aside in favour of the fantasy adventure. The emotional stakes of the story center on Charlie's relationship with Radar (saving her is like saving his mother) and then he stops caring about Radar. Entirely. I still cared as a reader, but the protagonist gave up on the core of the story. I’ll be discussing Charlie’s character arc, the role of Radar in the novel, and what I think might have fixed the book. Did Fairy Tale lose its way? Or did the fantasy elements make the book even stronger? Let me know what you think. #StephenKing #FairyTale #StephenKingReview #BookReview #BookTube #HorrorBooks #FantasyBooks #BookDiscussion #StephenKingBooks #ReadingCommunity
