We Took On Tussock Buster’s Biggest Loop… Then He Lost It in the River | Day 2

Day 2 at Tussock Buster, and my son and I decided to tackle the biggest loop of our weekend - 73 kilometres (45 miles) of open country, big hills, refuel stop and five treacherous river crossings. We also ended up riding with a bloke we had only just met that day, which is one of the great things about trail riding. Everyone is out there for the same reason, and before long you are tackling the hard sections together. Up until this ride, these were the biggest and trickiest river crossings my son and I had attempted. One of them caught our new riding mate out, and I managed to capture the moment he lost it in the water. The loop took us most of the day and threw a bit of everything at us: long climbs, traffic, river crossings and, for the final 15 kilometers, heavy rain and mud. This was our first Tussock Buster, and sadly it would also be our last. Riding this iconic event at Waiouru with my son is something I’m very glad we got to experience. Have you ever dropped a bike in a river crossing — and did it start again afterwards? Facebook:   / grandparidesagain   #TussockBuster #DirtBiking #NZTrailRiding
