Kikai Island is about 380 km away from Kagoshima City and is closest to Amami Oshima, the largest island in the Amami Islands group. With a population of approximately 7,000 people, this small island is a wonder formed by the uplifting of coral reefs. I visited Kikai Island spontaneously and found it to be more special than any other island I've been to. It's challenging to find tourist spots where you can enjoy even in heavy rain, but it's still delightful to capture the charm of Kikai Island, filled with tourist attractions that make you want to come back, rain or shine.
