On Wednesday, June 24th — the feast of Saint John the Baptist — two earthquakes struck Venezuela. Magnitude 7.2 and 7.5. The strongest in 126 years. Over 40,000 missing. Tens of thousands displaced. Buildings collapsed. Churches damaged. A country in crisis. This morning, Pope Leo XIV responded — in words and in action. He expressed his closeness to the Venezuelan people, prayed for the dead, encouraged the rescue workers, and sent 100,000 euros through the Apostolic Almonry as a first emergency contribution. The Archbishop of Caracas responded with deep gratitude: "It is important to feel solidarity. To feel part of a universal Church." But Pope Leo didn't stop there.
