Linfoma di non Hodgkin, la storia di Cristian: "la malattia è stata sconfitta grazie alla ricerca!"

Cristian is 37 years old and lives in Bologna. At the age of 8, he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Doctors gave him a 10% chance of recovery. Today, thanks to advances in research, more than 70% of patients survive. Lymphoma is a cancer that originates in the lymphatic system, the cells and tissues responsible for defending the body from external agents and disease and ensuring proper fluid circulation throughout the body. The lymphatic system is composed of vessels—similar to blood vessels—that transport lymph, a fluid containing waste material and excess fluid from various tissues and carrying lymphocytes and other immune system cells. Lymph nodes, on the other hand, are collections of lymphocytes—a type of white blood cell—and other immune cells that swell when an infection is present. Non-Hodgkin lymphoma can develop in various organs (lymph nodes, but also stomach, intestine, skin and central nervous system) starting from B lymphocytes and T lymphocytes.
