The Deposition Of Barry Allen is a video narrative performance art piece, detailing a specific moment in the life of Barry Allen, as he appears in #TheKryptonianEpic. The Kryptonian Epic is a multi-media fan fiction art project continuing the story of the DC Comics (“Superman: American Alien”), but primarily exists in the form of a multitude of Storytelling or “Pitch” videos for Youtube, and a few multimedia art projects and web comics. The Kryptonian Epic reimagines the DC Universe as a single story, remixing classic stories with new ones, all from a lens of character-based humanism, focusing on the people behind the iconic heroes we’ve come to know, re-examining and recreating certain origins, dynamics and events in a new way. Barry Allen is a unique character in the #kryptonianepic, and I felt he was worth his own video; though the epic is definitively Clark's story, the traditional DC pantheon each represent a different lesson Clark has to learn to eventually become the kind of person who could be Superman. Barry's lesson is a complicated one. It concerns humility, arrogance, genius, and judging books by their covers. More so than most of the characters in the story, Barry is...the nice word is "dimensional," the hard word is "flawed," and the mean word is "a fucked up asshole." But there’s more specificity to Barry than that, so I thought it would be fun, for the first time ever, to try to “act.” This is me…”acting.” Really I have no idea how we got here, but here we are. This is truly a collaboration with the mega-talented Alberto Borsato, who has lent his musical talents as composer of the Kryptonian Epic. I think his score so perfectly captures what I’m trying to say about Barry; I daresay it’s certainly better than my acting. Oy vey! And thank god for Nicole Moroni, who made Barry effectively look not quite like me. This was also another dreamlike editing project with Ben Escobar, who’s edited all of the Epic so far, and Karbis came round to help with the cameras. Those Flash designs are courtesy of mega brilliant David North; more on him later. Some of the people I've come to love the most are people I hated the first time I met them. Maybe give Barry a chance; some of what he has to say might be worth listening to. FOR THOSE REALLY PAYING ATTENTION: The Deposition of Barry Allen takes place within SUPERMAN: FOR ALL MANKIND, but actually serves as a bridge to ENDANGERED SPECIES, as well as a summary of FREEZE: TEST RUN. Test Run may still eventually get its own video, but those who've been following the epic should see dozens of lines drawn to The Society: Toy-Man, and the events that take place in the first half of Superman: For All Mankind. And of course, there's not insignificant ties to American Alien #5, and the ongoing saga of Rudy Jones. Thank you all so much. I love sharing this stuff with you. It's been a wild ride.
