Birmingham, Alabama: Things to Do - Family Fun | Baseball, Museums & Southern Eats!

This is part 2 of a 3-part series. Part 1: Amtrak Nola to Birmingham train ride (    • Riding Amtrak's Crescent Train from New Or...   ). Part 2: What we did in Birmingham (this video). Part 3: Amtrak: BHM back to Nola. We rode Amtrak's Crescent Northbound #20 🌙 train from New Orleans to Birmingham, Alabama. Exploring Birmingham, Alabama | Civil Rights History, Southern Food & Family Fun Join us on an exciting family trip with my husband and young son to Birmingham, Alabama, as we arrive aboard the Amtrak Crescent and dive into the rich culture, history, and flavors of this iconic Southern city. 🚆 Arrival by Train: We begin our journey and leave New Orleans with a scenic ride on the Amtrak Crescent, arriving in downtown Birmingham, ready to explore. Our home base for the trip is the stylish and comfortable Hotel Indigo, located in the heart of the city. We use Uber while we are there, and it is easily accessible and reliable transportation for us. 🍽️ Dining at Southern Kitchen & Bar Our first meal is at the popular *Southern Kitchen & Bar**, located in the vibrant **Uptown Birmingham* district. Founded by Chef Erica Barrett, this restaurant brings elevated Southern cuisine to life with dishes inspired by her roots in Mobile, Alabama. We loved the atmosphere, the flavors, and the vibes. The fried okra and fried green tomatoes were heavenly!! 🏟️ Exploring Uptown After dinner, we take a stroll through Uptown, passing the SEC offices and the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame—a must-see for sports fans. The area is walkable and full of energy. 📚 A Powerful Visit to the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute The next day, we start with breakfast at Hotel Indigo before heading to the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute. This moving museum tells the story of the Civil Rights Movement, including the tragic bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church and the story of the four little girls who lost their lives. We witnessed emotional moments as visitors shared personal memories of segregation, including a touching conversation between a U.S. Army veteran and another guest. 🥙 Lunch & Local Flavor For lunch, we switch things up with delicious Mediterranean food at a local spot—fresh, flavorful, and a great contrast to the Southern fare. ⚾ Birmingham Barons Game at Regions Field We wrap up our trip with a fun evening at Regions Field, cheering on the Birmingham Barons. The stadium is family-friendly and offers great views of the city skyline. Attending a game should definitely be on your to-do list. 💬 Final Thoughts Birmingham keeps winning us over with its warmth, resilience, and charm. From its deep historical roots to its modern-day vibrancy, this city left a lasting impression on our family. We’ll definitely be back. 👉 Don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more family travel adventures! #BirminghamAlabama #AmtrakCrescent #FamilyTravel #CivilRightsMuseum #SouthernFood #BirminghamBarons #TravelVlog #BlackHistory #SouthernKitchenAndBar #RegionsField #amtraktrains #amtrak #traintravel #travel #Crescent #trainride #neworleans #Birmingham #thingstodo #explorebirmingham #visitbirmingham #civilrights #16thstbaptist #blacktravel #whattodo In video Related Links: ▪️Music by: Epidemic Sound: (My link for a free trial to the paid service below) https://share.epidemicsound.com/wcowrh ▪️Birmingham Video of 1st visit Aug 2024:    • Everything we did in Birmingham after we a...   ▪️Amtrak playlist:    • Amtrak Rides   ▪️**Video description and voiceovers edited in Microsoft Co-pilot ▪️Birmingham Civil Rights Institute: https://www.bcri.org/ ▪️Birmingham Barons: https://www.milb.com/birmingham ⏰ TIMECODES ⏰ 00:00 INTRO 01:31 ROOM TOUR 03:05 SOUTHERN KITCHEN & BAR 04:30 UPTOWN 06:35 END DAY 1 07:45 BREAKFAST/DAY 2 10:42 CIVIL RIGHTS MUSUEM/KELLY INGRAHM PARK 15:42 MAKARIOS LUNCH/PLAYTIME 17:59 BIRMINGHAM BARONS GAME 24:36 CLOSE VLOG
